On 6 October 2026, the Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) participated in a dialogue convened by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Nairobi Regional Delegation on the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law (GIIHL) and the role of national IHL committees.

Representing MRPC was Dr. Solomon Njenga, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Director of Research and Programmes, contributing to discussions on protecting victims of armed conflict in Africa and globally, promoting respect for International Humanitarian Law, and translating the GIIHL’s recommendations into practical action through national mechanisms.

The dialogue underscored the importance of sustained political commitment and effective national mechanisms in strengthening compliance with IHL and advancing humanitarian protection across Africa.
