NCIC, MRPC and ECES Explore Tripartite Partnership to Strengthen Electoral Peace in Kenya Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Friday, 16 January 2026, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), led by CEO Dr Daniel Mutegi, hosted delegations from Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) and the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) for a high-level consultative meeting at its headquarters in Nairobi.

Discussions focused on a prospective tripartite partnership to develop a Conflict Vulnerability Index (CVI) – a predictive, data-driven tool intended to identify and map potential conflict hotspots and support targeted, timely, and evidence-based interventions before, during, and after Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

The engagement further explored the conceptualisation of a broader peace and social cohesion initiative aimed at preventing, mitigating, and responding to electoral-related conflict during the polls.

The MRPC delegation was led by the CEO, Brig. (Rtd) Dr Robert Kabage, while the ECES team comprised Amb Erastus Mwencha, Member of the ECES Strategic and Advisory Committee and Mr Giovanni Barbera.
