On 22 June 2026, Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) hosted a delegation from the China–Global South Project (CGSP), an independent non-profit research and analysis platform that examines China’s engagement across the Global South.
The visit, undertaken in collaboration with the European Climate Foundation, provided an opportunity for CGSP to share insights on the evolving nature of China’s engagement with countries across the Global South, with particular focus on Africa. Through a presentation and interactive discussion, participants explored China’s expanding role in trade, infrastructure development, diplomacy, security, and other strategic sectors shaping the continent’s future.
The CGSP delegation comprised Ms. Lucy Stevenson-Yang, Director of Research and Intelligence, Dr. Cobus van Staden, Head of Research, and Mr. Njenga Hakeenah, Africa Climate Editor. The MRPC team was led by the Chief Executive Officer, Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Robert Kabage.
The engagement reflects MRPC’s commitment to fostering informed dialogue and constructive exchange on emerging global and regional developments. It also reinforces the Centre’s growing focus on geopolitical shifts and strategic trends shaping Greater Eastern Africa, a region of increasing importance within the evolving global geopolitical landscape
