On 11 September 2026, Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) held a strategic consultative meeting with the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) at its official premises in Ngong Town, Kibiko A Road.
ICPAC is an East African Climate Centre of excellence accredited by the World Meteorological Organization, providing climate services to 11 East African countries.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Abdikarim Mohamed, Senior Climate Security Officer at ICPAC, and co-led by Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Robert Kabage, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of MRPC, who led the MRPC delegation. Other participants included Dr. Solomon Njenga, MRPC Director of Research and Programmes and Deputy CEO, Mr. Lucas Destrijcker, IGAD Advisor on Climate, Peace and Security and staff from both institutions.
Discussions explored areas of mutual interest, including advancing policy analysis on climate security, strengthening disaster risk management, leveraging evidence-based research to support early climate interventions, and promoting capacity development for climate-related strategies that enhance community resilience and prosperity across Greater Eastern Africa.
The strategic engagement reflects MRPC’s continued commitment to action-oriented research on climate-related conflicts and environmental security across Africa, with the aim of contributing to stronger climate governance and more informed policy responses.
Both MRPC and ICPAC look forward to deepening their partnership and advancing collaborative efforts towards building a climate-informed and resilient community in Greater Eastern Africa.
