Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) was honoured to participate in the strategic seminar themed “Somalia and the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden: Geopolitical Crisis and Emerging Security Challenges,” hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kenya on 31 July 2026 at the Tribe Hotel, Nairobi.
The high-level policy forum brought together members of the diplomatic corps, academic scholars, and experts from leading think tanks to deliberate on the evolving geopolitical landscape, domestic political developments, and emerging security challenges reshaping the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.
Representing MRPC, Dr. Solomon Njenga, PhD, Director of Research and Programmes, shared expert insights on regional rivalries influencing the Somalia, Red Sea and Gulf of Aden strategic landscape, the impact of domestic political dynamics, maritime response capacities, and the growing threat posed by non-state actors in undermining regional peace and stability.
The Centre’s participation reflects its continued commitment to fostering strategic dialogue, strengthening evidence-based policy engagement, and collaborating with like-minded partners to advance sustainable peace, security, and development across the Horn of Africa, and the Greater Eastern Africa region, through action-oriented research.
