MRPC Contributes Strategic Foresight Expertise at ICGLR Conflict Early Warning Workshop

From June 2nd – 6th, 2026, Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) participated in the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Expert Workshop on Conflict Early Warning and Response, co-hosted by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), at Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi, Kenya.

The workshop brought together regional experts, policymakers, and practitioners to advance the operationalization of the ICGLR Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism. Discussions focused on strengthening policy dialogue, harmonizing early warning frameworks, and promoting evidence-based approaches to anticipate and respond to conflict risks across the Great Lakes region.

Representing MRPC, the Director of Research and Programmes, Dr. Solomon Njenga, delivered a high-level presentation titled, Regional Conflict Dynamics, Emerging Risks and Implications for Early Warning, Preventive Diplomacy and ICGLR Response: Causes, Triggers and Consequences. His presentation contributed to technical deliberations alongside experts from the ICGLR, the Institute for Security Studies, and other regional institutions.

MRPC’s participation reflects the Centre’s commitment to advancing strategic foresight and evidence-based policy solutions that strengthen conflict prevention, early warning, and regional peace and security. Such engagements reinforce the Centre’s role in supporting collaborative approaches to anticipating emerging risks and informing timely policy responses across Greater Eastern Africa.
