MRPC Advances Regional Dialogue on Climate, Peace and Security at the 3rd CoP-CPS Meeting in Nairobi

On 5 November 2026, Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) participated in the 3rd Community of Practice on Climate, Peace and Security (CoP-CPS) meeting of 2026, convened at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), bringing together regional stakeholders to discuss shared Climate, Peace and Security priorities.

Representing MRPC were Dr. Solomon Njenga, Deputy CEO and Director of Research and Programmes, accompanied by Agnes Maina, Research Fellow.

The meeting addressed El Niño preparedness and response, climate, peace and security at COP31, and progress towards finalisation and endorsement of IGAD’s Common Regional Framework on Climate, Peace and Security (CRF-CPS).

For MRPC, regional cooperation and evidence-informed policymaking remain essential to strengthening climate resilience, anticipating security risks and addressing interconnected challenges across Eastern Africa.
