EISA and MPRC Chart a Path for Electoral Governance Partnership Ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Elections

On February 12, 2026, the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) conducted a high-level consultative visit to Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) as part of its ongoing Needs Assessment Mission (NAM) to Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The EISA delegation was led by Ms. Charlotte Osei, a Board Member of EISA and former Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission. She was accompanied by Mr. Baidessou Soukolgue, Executive Director; Mr. Mathias Coffi Hounkpe, Head of the Elections and Political Party Department; and Ms. Lenny Taabu, Programme Officer.

The MRPC team was led by the think tank’s Chief Executive Officer, Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Robert Kabage.

The teams exchanged insights on Kenya’s electoral landscape and the broader governance environment within the Greater Eastern Africa region.

Discussions also focused on institutional resilience, anticipatory conflict analysis, and the development of sustainable electoral support systems capable of mitigating risk across the election cycle. Drawing on MRPC’s expertise in conflict trends, geopolitical shifts, and electoral vulnerability analysis, the meeting explored structured avenues for collaboration in support of democratic consolidation in Kenya.

The consultative visit reaffirmed the strategic value of partnership between continental democratic institutions and policy research centres in strengthening electoral governance and advancing long-term stability.
