On 25 August 2026, the Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) hosted Dr. Martin Yauma, PhD, Head of Education and Research, from the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK). ADAK is a State agency mandated to protect the fundamental rights of Kenyan athletes to participate in doping-free sport while promoting their health, fairness and equality.

The visit followed an earlier engagement between MRPC and Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ADAK, at the Centre’s premises. The latest engagement provided an opportunity to further explore ADAK’s priority areas, with particular focus on the challenges affecting athletes in Kenya and opportunities for strengthened collaboration.

The interactive discussions explored prospects for mitigating doping-related challenges, undertaking evidence-based research and analysis in sports security, and addressing other cross-cutting issues, including economic development and their implications for the future of sports in Eastern Africa.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Solomon Njenga, PhD, Director of Research and Programmes at MRPC.
