Between 5th and 15th June 2026, Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) held a series of strategic discussions with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC) as the two institutions continue strategic engagement on maritime security.
The discussions were led by Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Robert Kabage, PhD, on behalf of MRPC, and Mr. Kiruja Micheni on behalf of the DCoC team. The engagements focused on identifying areas of mutual interest and strengthening partnerships aimed at addressing emerging maritime security challenges across Africa.
MRPC and the DCoC team also examined opportunities and challenges shaping the continent’s maritime domain, with a focus on enhancing maritime governance, mitigating environmental risks and advancing regional cooperation.
The Centre remains committed to working closely with the IMO and its partners to advance peace, security, cooperation, and inclusive representation in maritime affairs.
