MRPC participates in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Security Symposium

Mashariki Research and Policy Centre (MRPC) participated in the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes Security Symposium, held at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi on December 8, 2025, as part of its ongoing engagement in regional peace and security dialogue. The Centre was represented by Agnes Maina, a Research Fellow.

The high-level symposium convened scholars, policymakers, diplomats, and security practitioners to examine state fragility, emerging threats of terrorism and violent extremism, and the role of regional institutions in conflict prevention and resolution across the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.

The keynote address was delivered by Ambassador Dr Monica Juma, who underscored both the challenges and opportunities within the region’s complex security architecture. She called for a rethinking of “multidimensional peace,” advocating for clearer priorities and targeted interventions that strengthen long-term resilience.

MRPC’s participation reinforced its institutional learning, policy influence, and strategic engagement, further advancing the Centre’s contribution to peace, security, and stability in the Greater Eastern Africa region.
